Red-white Leaf Beetle - Paropsisterna sp. (Chrysophtharta sp.)
FAMILY CHRYSOMELIDAE
- Body length 8mm
- It is easy to found this beetle on different species of Eucalyptus in Karawatha Forest during mid summer. The beetles were running around on leaves and stems.
- There are the red patterns on creamy colours on its back. The patterns resemble the map of Africa and South America.
- When disturbed, this beetle released a small dropping on leaf. We believed this is a kind of defense behavior.
- Eggs are 1mm x 3mm in size.
The Host Plant
- The beetle can be found on the new shots of a matured gum tree and small gum tree of different species. The other Leaf Beetle Chrysophtharta cloelia was also found on the same plants.
