This page contains pictures and information about 5-spotted Leaf Cylinder Beetles that we found in the Brisbane area,
Queensland, Australia.
Body length 10mm
This leaf beetle has the typical cylindrical body shape of a beetle in
subfamily Cryptocephalinae. It is bridge
orange in colour with 5 large black spots on its back. There is a smaller spot
on each side of its thorax. The antenna are black in colour with last 4
segments thinner and in pale orange and pale black.
On Apr 2010 in Toohey Forest we saw a orange insect flying
slowly, almost hovering. With a bit of disturb, it landed on a grass near
ground. Came closer to have a look it dropped on to ground. We let it hold a
dry leaf and pick it up to have a look.
