Subfamily Chrysomelinae, FAMILY CHRYSOMELIDAE
This page contains pictures and information a bout Dotted-lines Leaf beetles that we found in the Brisbane area,
Queensland, Australia.
- Body length 10mm
-
- We found this Leaf Beetle quite a number of time in mid summer. Found them
once on Acacia and the others on
Eucalyptus. The beetles were small to medium size, shiny bright, golden brown with dotted
creamy-white lines on the back.
-
-
-
- Pictures taken in Mt Cotton early summer. Only one beetle was found on the
young Acacia tree. Notice in the second picture a Leafhopper
hiding at the back of the beetle.
-
-
-
- Later mid-summer in Karawatha Forest, we found this Leaf Beetle wandering
on a gum tree.
-
- This beetle flied actively in the sunny hot day. .
-
-
-
- Usually a few of them can be found on host plant. Notice their bite marks
on the leaves. Besides that no other damages were noticed.
-
-
-
- As all other leaf beetles, male
and female look the same. Male may be a little bit smaller in
size.
-
-
-
- When disturbed, this leaf beetle employs the drop to ground
method to escape. So we usually put our hand under where the beetle sit when
approach to the beetle. If drops onto the floor, the beetle will quickly run
and hide under plant materials.
