FAMILY CHRYSOMELIDAE
- This page contains pictures and information about Seed weevils that we found in the Brisbane area,
Queensland, Australia.
-
-
- Leaf beetles in this subfamily are small in size. They have enlarged hind
legs and look like weevils,
so they are also called Seed weevils.
Females insert eggs in seed and larvae are seeds feeder.

- Bean Weevil
-
- Acanthoscelides obtectus, body length 4mm
- Pictures were taken in Daisy Hills on September 2008. There were a few of
them found on Wallum Wedge Pea (Gompholobium virgatum). This
beetle is native to the Americas. Chris
Reid advised that there are native Bruchidius looking like this but with slightly smaller hind legs.
- Thank to Chris
Reid for the identification of this leaf beetle.
