- This is one of the largest Tachinid
Flies that we found in Brisbane. It is metallic blue-green in colour with
golden orange head. Its postorbits (the narrow strips behind eyes) are silvery white on
orange-yellow head.

- This fly is seasonally common on the gumtree trunk in Karawatha Forest.
This is the largest Rutilia species. They
are mostly seen from mid Dec to mid Feb in eucalypt forests in Brisbane.

- This Golden Head Rutilia Fly looks similar to those flies in Ameniinae, which is another group of large metallic flies in family
Calliphoridae.

- As other group in subfamily Dexiinae, flies in Rutiliini are parasitic in larval Coleoptera
(beetle) especially Scarabaeidae.

- Difference species of Rutilia flies can be found on the same large tree trunk. Adults
are usually found resting on the sunny side of tree trunk. Adults feed on flowers, notably Eucalyptus.
Females rest on ground when larvipositing.
