Red Swamp Dragon - Agrionoptera insignis allogenes

Body length 40mm
 
The Red Swamp Dragon is a medium size dragonfly with slender red abdomen. The abdomen tip is black in colour. The head and thorax is light bright green. Its wings are relatively long.

This dragonfly is uncommon. We first found this dragonfly on Feb 2011 in Karawatha Forest on a lagoon near the Melaleuca Circuit.

The dragonfly was resting on top of reed. When we came closer, it flied and rested on a few tens meters away. It returned to the same perch only when we hided away.
