Family Asilidae

in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.
- Body length 25mm, male

- This robber fly is yellow-brown in colours with reddish brown eyes. The
antennae and all legs are orange yellow. There the yellow bristles and setae
on face. The abdomen is greyish-yellow with black end tip. Wings are hyaline
with vines in dark brown, yellowish-brown near the wing-base. There are the
microtrichia on wing membrane of marginal and sub marginal cells.

- Robber Fly usually attacked from the back side of the prey when they are on
flight. The above photos show an exceptional case. From reference information,
the robber flies are common amongst blady grass, Imperata sp.. They
like to rest on top of the grass with little tree coverings.
