Golden Bandwing - Cryptobothrus chrysophorus

This page contains pictures and information about the Golden Banding Grasshoppers that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.  

Body length 30mm
 
The grasshopper is brown to dark brown, reassemble dry leaves colours on the ground. The abdomen and hind legs are bright orange in colour. Wings are brilliant yellow, which can be seen only when they are flying.

They were common in Karawatha Forest during mid-summer. Adults were usually found resting on bare ground or with dry laves.

In Karawatha Forest, we found a fully winged adult. Male produces a buzzing sound when flight.
