Body length 8mm 
 
Stable Fly is a biting fly. This fly is brownish-grey in colour. It has the horny non-retractile piercing proboscis adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood. Wings are clear with brownish vein. Vein M conspicuously curved forwards. Legs are all black.

Stable Flies are blood sucking ectoparasites on mammals. They attack human, cattle, horse and other mammals. Blood meals are necessary for females before laying eggs. 
 
This is an introduced species and established around the world.
