FAMILY SALTICIDAE
This page contains pictures and information about Chink Jumping Spiders that we
found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

- Body length 12mm

- This is a large jumping spider. It is grey-brown in colour with dark brown
patterns on each side of abdomen. Its legs are relatively short, with brown
to pale brown in colour.

- The spider has a flattened brown abdomen that is an elongate oval shape. The
body shape is perfect for hiding and living in retreat under loose barks.

- The spider hunts on bark, it is well camouflage.
Hanging from its safety-line, it jumps down, swings and lands on the
insect
when the insect just lands on the tree trunk.

- This spider is quite common on smooth tree trunks in Eucalyptus forest in
Brisbane.

- This spider with similar colour patterns, smaller abdomen and longer palp.
We believe it is the male of this species.

- This spider was found in Anstead Forest on Oct 2009. It was wandering on a
large smooth bark gum tree trunk.
