Family Bombyliidae

that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

- Body length 10mm

- This beefly is large in size. It has the stout and hairy body, with
long and slender proboscis. The thorax is grey and abdomen segments banded with
black and white hairs. Wings are slightly tinted.

- Pictures were taken in Sunshine Coast near Glasshouse Mountains on Oct
2008. There were many of them along the footpaths. Some of them seem
laying eggs in soils.

- On Sep 2009, Michael
Jefferies sent us email suggested it could be the Meomyia
sericans. We checked and agreed with Michael.

- The 3rd antennal segment extremely long, thin and pointed apically.

- We also found them in Karawatha Forest.
