Family Ascalaphidae
- This page contains pictures and information about Yellow Owl-flies that
we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

- Female, body length 45mm

- This Owl-fly is black in colour with yellow markings.
Head and legs are pale yellow with dark grey eyes. On wings the pterostigma
is lemon yellow, in hindwings the pterostigma
is yellow with dark basal spot. Wings are relative broad.

- We found this Owl-fly once in Karawatha forest on Dec 2007.

- We found two Yellow Owl-fly males in Boondall Wetlands on 28 Nov
2009.

- Different species of Owl-flies look very similar. In the field we recognize
this Yellow Owl-fly by its yellow legs and yellow pterostigma
(the yellow dot near the wing tips).

2009.
