Family Dolichopodidae
- This page contains pictures and information about Dolichopodid Flies
that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

- Body length 5mm, male, notice the 360° twisting of the male postabdomen.

- This fly is metallic green and
its wings are transparent with black pattern. They are common in Brisbane.

- They are usually found resting on board green smooth leaves, fly back to
original position after disturbing.

- The Long-legged Fly has the wing vein M branched to M1 and M2, M1arc
with round angle bend to apex. Vein m-cu is straight. Wings with
distinct transverse dark brown markings distinctly joined together across
anterior margin of wing. The join of wing band extended to R4+5.

- Haltere is
yellow in colour.

- This species look very similar to the other species Austrosciapus
proximus. Both species are common in Brisbane. We may have mixed
them up in the two web pages.
