This page contains pictures and information about Black Head Orange Braconid Wasps that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

Body length  15mm                         
 
This Braconid wasp is in the Helconinae subfamily. Larvae of this subfamily is the internal parasites of beetle larvae. We believed this wasp (in above photo) was just found a beetle larvae under bark and laying egg into it.

This wasp has a very long ovipositor. The wasp has a black head, long black antenna with white sections and reddish-brown body. We took the above picture in Yugarapul Park in mid summer 2003.

We found this wasp again on Karawatha Forest on Nov 2007.
